LA County Petition: Ban the Sale of Shark Fins and Products
LA County Petition: Ban the Sale of Shark Fins and Products Sponsored by Dorsal Friends, this petition calls for LA County to ban the sale of all shark fin products.

Although the practice of "finning" is illegal in the US, it is rampant in many parts of the world. Currently the means in which shark fins sold in Los Angeles County are obtained cannot be determined. By allowing the sale of shark fins, we are inadvertently supporting the finning industry and are contributing to the demise of shark populations.

URGENT! Please help AOCA to Save South Africa's Sharks!
South Africa is considered a shark diving Mecca of the world. Every year thousands of tourists come to South Africa to have a unique diving experience with some of the oceans top predators. Despite this, of the over 200 different species of sharks found in South African waters, only White Sharks, Whale Sharks and Basking Sharks are fully protected. All other species may be legally caught and killed. Raggedtooth Sharks, Tiger Sharks and Bull Sharks have limited protection within MPAs. This limited protection of so few species is of little help since these animals know no boundaries and therefore remain vulnerable outside MPAs. Added to this, this protection is of little use when the existing laws are not adequately enforced.

Please sign this petition to help AfriOceans Conservation Alliance in their appeal to the South African government to improve protections for sharks!

This petition is written in French, but very easy to sign -- Nom = Last Name; Prenom = First Name; Localite = City; Pays = Country. The petition language lists reasons why sharks should be protected in this region, and appeals to the President to protect them. * Sharks play an important role in the marine ecosystem * Local shark populations have been depleted from destructive fishing practices * Sharks are vulnerable due to their slow reproduction * Growing international fishing pressure, due to the demand for shark fin soup has greatly diminished shark populations * Sharks are very valuable for tourism * Sharks are extremely important to the Melanesian culture * New Caledonia needs to take a leading role in their conservation

Shark Savers Petition to Remove shark nets in South Africa
Shark nets are gill nets installed in tiered patterns by KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board (KZNSB). The purpose is to reduce the shark populations and keep them away from people swimming at the beaches. However, there are better ways to protect swimmers that don't indiscriminately kill sharks and other marine life.
